Doris Day & Her Country Cousins performed the first recording of the song in October 1949. It was eclipsed a month later by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters with Vic Schoen and his orchestra, Recorded on November 25 1949 it became a top 10 hit in February 1950.
