We love ragtime, jazz, blues and big band swing, though we could give them up if we had to. But we’ll never never hang up our rock and roll shoes.
o’ mice an ‘men
We thought Melbourne was heading into calmer COVID19 waters when we recorded (I Don’t Want To) Hang Up My Rock And Roll Shoes. The recording session went well and was followed by a banquet of soup, bread, sandwiches, cakes, biscuits and chocolate. We love our Old Spice Fridays.
Our plan was to shoot scenes for a video the next week. Rabbie Burns was right when he said “The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft agley.” Agley we went with heightened restrictions and then the Melbourne lockdown.
A little bit of luck
It’s our habit to film practice sessions so that we can look back on them later. Nothing fancy, just an iPhone on a microphone stand. Often we forget to press record but on this particular day we got it right. It isn’t the video we planned but it’s the video we’ve got.
Audio was recorded in GarageBand on an iPad using a rhythm and bass click track prepared in Logic Pro X. Wonderful bass playing by our Old Spice Anne. Glen, Lois and Trevor provide the backing vocals while Max takes the lead.
We used the Rode NT-USB microphone for vocal recording. Video shot with Filmic Pro on an iPhone 8 and edited in Final Cut Pro X. Background videos from Pexels, free stock photos and videos.
